How a Front Door Makeover Became a Surprise Restoration Challenge! 🛠️🍰

When this Cherry Hill🍒 couple 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ asked us to refresh their double doors 🚪✨, they knew the old trim had to go. After years of harsh sun exposure ☀️🔥, it had partly melted 🫠 and sagged 😬, making replacement the only option. But since the trim was still securely attached, there was no way we could’ve known what was holding it in place… until we removed it. 😳 

Instead of a few expected screws 🔩, we found 42 wooden pegs per door (!!) 🪵, each embedded in a dimple pressed into the steel door skin ⚙️ during manufacturing. That would’ve been manageable if the new trim matched the old—but it didn’t. The new trim’s dimensions were different 📏, meaning it couldn’t sit in the same place. 

This turned our “simple” project into a major restoration job 🧰. We had to repair 84 dimples and holes 🕳️, smoothing out the doors as much as possible before we could even start painting. 

Cue the filler, sanding, priming, and painting 🎨—multiple times—to make the doors look their best. But we weren’t done yet: 

✅ We installed the new trim 🔨 and replaced the rusty, 20-year-old hardware with a sleek new lockset 🔑✨ 

✅ We swapped out the leaky weatherstripping 🚪🌬️ for a snug, draft-free seal 💨👌 

✅ We installed a new 6’ wide metal and composite threshold ⚙️🔧 for renewed durability and a perfect fit. 

What started as a “simple” front door makeover turned into a full-on team effort 💪. Shout-out to our tireless painter, Alfonso 👷‍♂️🎨, for his incredible patience and craftsmanship, and to the Mrs. for keeping us fueled with homemade cake 🍰 (seriously, it saved the day 😊). The homeowners rolled with the punches 🤝 and together we turned this unexpected challenge into something amazing ✨. 

Are the doors 100% factory-perfect? Nope. But they’re smooth 😍, stunning 🌟, and full of character 🏡—and the homeowners couldn’t be happier 😊. Neither could we! 💚
