Preserving History, One Rot Repair at a Time! 🏡

When the tenant of this beloved gingerbread-style home in South Jersey noticed rot creeping ☠ into the porch and soffits, the homeowner knew she had to protect her family’s Victorian treasure. Living in NYC 🏢🌎, she trusted us to preserve the architectural charm 🏡 while tackling some serious structural issues.

Our inspection revealed a poorly pitched second floor gutter that was causing oversplash 🌧💦 and rotted over 26 feet of fascia, soffit, and more. But we had just the fix! 🔨 The owner wanted to remain faithful to the historic integrity of the building by using wooden materials as much as possible. So we used Medium Density Overlay (MDO), a plywood product few people even know about anymore. It's made with a waterproof glue and enhanced face properties...it was very popular in the U.S. for this purpose before vinyl soffits took over. Then we made the new MDO fascia boards taller so we could rehang the gutters at the perfect pitch and minimize future oversplash 🌧💦. To further safeguard against water damage, we used metal flashing on the top edge and the entire face of the fascia—keeping it protected for years to come! 🚪⛏🧰‍

For the porch repair, we installed solid mahogany boards, naturally resistant to rot, and used PVC trim boards on the dormer siding to prevent further damage. All repairs were carefully painted to match the existing Victorian color palette. 🎨 The result? A beautifully restored home with enhanced durability, thanks to the use of premium materials that integrated nicely with the home's historic charm.
