The Case of the Runaway šŸƒā€ā™‚ļø Remodeler, Part 1: Shiplap & Mantel Fireplace Makeover

After saving for ten years šŸ•°, this Cherry Hill šŸ’ family's šŸ‘Øā€šŸ‘©ā€šŸ‘¦ā€šŸ‘¦ $150,000 home šŸ remodel had gone horribly sideways āš . Their contractor šŸ¦¹, a licensed and insured company from Philly who promised an "affordable" remodel, had worked for six months in their home, then received the final payment and **abandoned the job** with almost $15,000 šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’° of work still not done. Their lawyer āš– said it would cost more than was stolen šŸ’ø to pursue justice across state lines. So much for "affordable"...

That's when they called The Dapper Doer šŸ‘Øā€šŸ”§ šŸ§°šŸ’Ŗ to be sure they didn't get cheated again!! They had 5 projects for us to tackle over a one month period. So this is a multi-post series that shows the highlights.

This centerpiece project was a shiplap accent wall, 5' wide by 9' tall, and mantel installation around their fireplace šŸ”„. We had to restore the fascia of the gas fireplace, as well. Silicone caulk had been used to attach the previous stone tile and left a mess when the tile was removed. Once the silicone was off, the surround perimeter had to be reprimed and repainted šŸ–Œ with specialty high heat products to restore the finish. Then it was time for the shiplap šŸ”Ø, the mantel installation, the baseboard and base shoe installations, as well as some black, mitered, metal trim around the surround that we made specifically for this job. And just for good measure, we surprised the Mrs by finishing the top with Crown šŸ‘‘ Molding instead of simple trim. She was thrilled with the results! āœ… šŸ’Æ
